Regional Victoria's first specialty coffee roaster set up in Bendigo in 2001, well before country towns were expected to have an opinion on single origin. A quarter of a century on, the operation still runs from an unassuming industrial unit in East Bendigo, roasting blends, single origins and Swiss Water decaf for wholesale accounts and home drinkers across the state. The medals have accumulated across two decades of competition rather than a single headline win, and the loyalty shows in the numbers, with regulars reordering at roughly three times the industry average by the roastery's own account. There is no café theatre here, no reclaimed timber or espresso bar for show; beans are roasted, packed and handed over the counter within two hours of ordering, on weekday mornings only. It is a useful reminder that the specialty coffee story in Australia did not start, and does not end, in the inner suburbs of the capital cities.
