Jaques Coffee Plantation

The Mareeba district grows the bulk of Australia's coffee, and this family plantation has worked its red-soil rows for around four decades, roughly 85,000 trees running toward the ranges. Everything poured in the Artisan Coffee Lounge is grown, harvested and roasted on the property, a genuinely single-origin cup in a country that imports most of its beans. The family pioneered mechanical harvesting suited to Australian conditions, and plantation tours walk visitors from tree to cup. Alongside the licensed cafe sits a roastery and a small shop stocking estate beans to carry home, with wholesale supply reaching cafes and hotels around the country. It is the sort of working farm gate that rewards the drive up from Cairns: order a flat white, look out over the trees that filled the bag, and the provenance conversation ends before it begins.
